Our Story

Imagine not knowing when your next meal would be, going to bed hungry, waking up and there’s nothing in for breakfast, no snacks, parents with no money to just pop to the shop, thousands are choosing to heat a home or to provide their children with a meal. Times are tough, cost of living is higher than ever before.

Sadly, latest figures from the End Child Poverty Coalition show that 1 in 3 local children are living in poverty and in some areas it is as high as 36%. We are supporting Cash for Kids and will be fundraising to help raise as much as possible, to help combat Holiday Hunger and support children and families here in South Yorkshire & Derbyshire.

When you think of the school holidays, you think of fun activities, days out and maybe even a holiday but for many families on low income this is not the reality. Although some children can access free school meals during term time as soon as those doors close at the end of term it’s a waiting game, as children leave not knowing when they might be lucky enough to get their next meal. The impact of holiday hunger on children often means they return to school malnourished, sluggish and mentally not ready to start learning at the beginning of a new term. Many face a Summer of social isolation and some even turn to antisocial behaviour to get what they need.
