My Story

I was fortunate to be able to play football across the North East of Scotland for over 15 years. It’s always been important to me to use that platform, and the help from local clubs & businesses, to support good causes. I stopped playing football nearly 5 years ago but my son loves playing football so I am able to put my passion into supporting him.

Back in April this year I heard through MFR that fundraising activities and ideas were being sought for Cash for Kids throughout the year as well as the push leading up to Christmas. Cash for Kids is a fantastic support for children across the North East and it made me think about how to offer some local community support. It made me think back to matches that used to take place where ex-players from clubs would put on their boots again to raise money for clubs. With that in mind I got in touch with a few ex-teammates, both Dufftown FC and Islavale FC, and the Simpson Park Trust, who were all happy to support be involved in a match for ex-players (over 35s) to help support Cash for Kids.

Since then it has been all systems go and my wife Charlotte has been doing a power of work supporting the planning & arrangements for the day. It has been overwhelming how much this has grown from just a football match into a whole fun day and evening fundraising events too. The support received so far from local businesses and those taking part has been nothing short of magnificent.
It’s definitely scary and the biggest undertaking in terms of fundraising we have been involved in for charity but hopefully everyone involved and those who are able to come along and support on the day and the evening can help raise a lot of money!

Details for the day - the event takes place at Simpson Park in Keith on Saturday 23rd September 2023. Kick off for the Islavale FC v Dufftown FC charity match will be at 2pm with the gate opening for entry at 1pm. There will be FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY with bouncy castle, face painting, kick darts challenges, food vans, teas/coffees, raffle prizes and much more!
Following the match the fundraising will carry on into the evening at the Ugie House Hotel in Keith. Starting at 6.30pm in the Ugie Hall the evening entertainment will kick off with a guest speaker, Joe Harper ex Aberdeen and Scotland legend, followed by an update from Lauren from Cash for Kids. There will then there will be a live interactive auction hosted by Bert from the Ugie with prizes including fourball golf outings, items signed by Rory McIIroy, a ‘rare’ bottle of Whisky, tickets to Aberdeen FC home game, and much more! This will be followed by a few thank you’s and summary from me before the music and entertainment starts from a local DJ for the rest of the evening.
