Story

Hi there, welcome to my fundraising page…

It's been a while since I did any serious amount of running - the years fly by and the pounds pile on. You can probably tell that from this picture of me in 2014 just after completion of the Royal Parks Half Marathon.
On the 11th of October, we go again..

Those that know me well know that 2025/6 have been tough times at "Dowdall Towers" and we are looking for better times ahead . This seems an appropriate way to put something positive into the mix.

So then....I’m raising money to support Cash for Kids, a charity that makes a real difference to the lives of children and young people.

They focus on alleviating poverty, supporting disability and improving quality of life. Anything you can give is very much appreciated.

After you sponsor me, it would be great if you could leave a photo or video message too!

Thanks all...Appreciate you even looking at this page.

Peter

Update

28 Sep 2026 / 11:51am

28th of September - 2 weeks to go

Main thing to report here is that I got the 10 miler done yesterday and my tendons are not thankful.

We are now heading for the taper (the recovery period for you body once the main work is done). I hope my inflammation will now settle a little and I can prep for the run.

Once I am done with this race, I'll look to figure out whether I am running regularly again.. for now its just "get it done".

Countdown: 13 days to go.
Diet: Generally good, Down 20lbs
Fitness: Long runs are all done... tweaking core conditioning now
Injuries: Knee tendonitis is still there.
Progress: Not quite what I wanted but if i look from where I started, its better.

21st of September - 3 weeks to go.

Had to take nearly a week off in the middle of my buildup (see above) 😐 - sadly the knee tendonitis flared and I needed that inflammation to settle.

Back on the road this past week, I got two five milers (one easy and one tempo) and 8.5 mile long run dealt with and a couple of basic strength and flex sessions in.

The long run was one of those that happens where the tank felt empty and the Tempo run, one that I felt strong and fluid. That happens across sessions sometimes and so I'll try not to read into that too much.

Am going to be winding down and tapering my distances for race day soon and I'm now concerning myself with completing 13.2 miles and not carrying to much lead in my legs.

That's just a hard one for my ego to take but I should/need to accept that finding my way back to running was not likely to go in the straight line I had hoped for, 😠

Maybe posting a time is for a later race....

Countdown: 20 days to go.
Diet: Generally good, Down 20lbs (wanted 35)
Fitness: Reasonable but I need to deal with some general conditioning.
Injuries: Carrying some knee tendonitis which isn't going to be 100% clear before race day.
Progress: Hard to chart the last few weeks.

Update

7 Sep 2026 / 12:31pm

My body has pushed back at me and is questioning what the hell I was thinking as my long runs have moved from 5-6-7-8 Miles in recent weeks and I am now suffering with some knee tendonitis.

I have been putting in around 20(ish) miles a week at this stage plus a few gym sessions. Going to have to take a few days out now to manage the pain.

The sedentary spell before this mission where I put on some pounds and lost some cardio has been tougher to recover than I expected - Not sure why i thought it would just snap back inline with my wishes and I'm frustrated that I am not going to be as time competitive as I had hoped but I might have to accept that I am no longer 25.

Nonetheless, stubborn will has taken me through worse and I'll get it done unless I snap something!!

Countdown: 34 days to go.

Diet: Generally good, Down 20lbs (wanted 35)

Fitness: Endurance is coming along nicely, general conditioning needs more polish.

Injuries: Knees need a few days at least..

Progress: Decent but I wanted more.

Sorry to leave you hanging folks, but sadly, I have had very little to report.

A few weeks back I got a tricky hamstring/Calf problem and have been off the road since then.

Got back out there this morning and put a few miles on the clock and whilst it was hot (even before 8am), I got it done.

Now to find that consistency again!!

Update

29 May 2026 / 11:02pm

Week 3: A couple of weeks on and I’m a few kilos lighter (about 3) and have put a little fitness into the tank.

Consistency of diet and exercise routines needs some tightening.

Injuries: none right now.
Fitness: better than it was but joints feel stiff.
Few weeks out from switching to road running but the bike and the gym are playing their part.

Update

10 May 2026 / 10:02pm

End of Week 1.

Progress this week...
Task 1. Lose weight and add basic fitness.

Ditched the beer and switched my diet up to something leaner.

Exercise: Using the bike and bodyweight drills to get started whilst not loading on the joints until I shed some pounds.

Weight: Down four pounds

Injuries: Slightly inflamed tendon behind the knee - to be expected as I just started up.

There’ll be aches and pains after and your diet plan up to it, I’ll do my best to cook.
You’re such a kind man with a huge heart.
