This isn’t just a campaign or a feel-good gesture for me. These kids will feel the silent weight of walking into school knowing they don’t look the same as everyone else—wearing hand-me-downs, or shoes that had seen better days. They try not to let it get to them, but when you’re a kid, you feel that difference in your bones. It makes them shrink a little. And no child should ever have to feel small just because of their circumstances.
Our kids right here in our city are living through that. This is about giving them more than a uniform. It’s about giving them a sense of worth, a sense of belonging. School is hard enough without carrying the extra burden of shame or self-consciousness. When a child walks into a classroom already feeling ‘less than’ because of something they can’t control, that sticks with them.
And it’s not just the kids, it’s the families too. There are parents out there doing their absolute best, juggling work, bills, and responsibilities, but still falling short when it comes to affording basics like a blazer or gym shoes. Imagine how heartbreaking that is. Imagine the guilt and frustration of wanting to give your child the world and barely being able to give them a school jumper. That’s the reality for so many families in Glasgow and it’s not right.
We can all help. We can take some of that pressure off. We can say to those parents, ‘You’re not alone. We see you.’ We can say to those kids, ‘You matter. You belong.’ That’s what this is all about.
I owe everything to the people around me who helped us when we had nothing. I’ll never forget what it felt like to be seen and supported at a time I didn’t even know how to ask for help. Now that I’m in a position to do something, I feel a responsibility to give back. Not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it’s the only thing that feels right in my heart.
This isn’t about business. It’s about love. It’s about Glasgow and our community. It’s about remembering where we came from, and making sure that, as far as we can help it, no child in Glasgow ever has to feel like they don’t belong because of something as fixable as a uniform.
All profits on the 6th of August will be donated to the Cash for Kids Glasgow School Uniform Appeal.
