Hi, and welcome to Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club’s Cash for Kids Sports Challenge fundraising page!
Powerchair Football is a unique and rapidly growing sport that enables people with high levels of physical disability to play football in a structured, competitive environment. It is currently one of the few active team participation sports designed specifically for people who use electric wheelchairs for sport. The game is fast-paced, highly skilled and exciting to watch, using specially adapted powerchairs and a large football. One of the most remarkable aspects of the sport is that players of different ages, genders and disabilities can compete together on an equal playing field.
At MPFC, we provide regular training sessions, opportunities to participate in competitive matches, and a welcoming social environment where players and families can connect with others who share similar experiences. Many of our players live with life-limiting or complex conditions and, prior to joining the club, have had limited opportunities to participate in team sport or meet others with similar disabilities. For some, joining MPFC is the first time they have ever experienced being part of a team or the excitement of competitive sport.
The impact of this is life changing. Players build confidence, independence and social connections, while also improving physical wellbeing and coordination. The emotional moments experienced during matches — such as scoring a first goal or contributing to a team victory — are incredibly powerful for players and their families. Parents regularly tell us they never imagined their child would have the opportunity to play competitive football or feel part of a team environment.
We pride ourselves on creating a truly inclusive and accessible sporting community. The specialist equipment required for powerchair football is extremely expensive, which can create significant barriers to participation. As a club, we work hard to remove these barriers by providing access to equipment, subsidising costs where possible, and actively seeking funding to ensure no player is excluded due to financial circumstances.
Through our work, Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club not only provides access to sport but also creates a supportive community that empowers people with severe physical disabilities to be active, confident and socially connected members of society.
We're raising money to help us enable more local disabled children to get active and involved in our sport, and we'd love your help!
All the money we raise we'll keep, plus we could win an extra £10,000, £8,000 or £6,000 if we're in the top three fundraising groups, plus all other groups still get £1,000 if we raise £2,500!
Have a look below where you'll see updates about our fundraising, how it’s all going and hopefully some messages from other sponsors too.
Please donate if you can, we'd really appreciate it. Thank you!
