Story

Help Us Keep Our Community Safe with #kNOwKnifeCrime

Since July 2023, schools in the Southport Learning Trust have come together to support #kNOwKnifeCrime — a youth campaign focused on educating and empowering young people with vital, life-saving knowledge. At the heart of this work is a shared commitment to keeping our young people safe and giving them the confidence to make positive, informed choices.

Why Your Support Matters

In 2023, our schools raised an incredible £5,200 to fund bleed control kits and cabinets outside school grounds. Building on that success, April 2024 saw us join forces with schools across Sefton, raising £30,000 and enabling 86 bleed control kits and cabinets to be installed across the area. In 2025, we carried this momentum forward by funding first aid training through the Mini Medics programme, equipping pupils with practical skills to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

In 2026, we are carrying on with our efforts and once again joining forces with the #kNOwKnifeCrime campaign. Every donation, no matter the size, will help fund vital first aid training for our children.

Support Our Upcoming Events:

Friday 17th April 2026 – #kNOwKnifeCrime Assembly
Year 5 and Year 6 pupils will take part in an assembly led by Laura Hughes, Campaign Manager for #kNOwKnifeCrime. The session shares the story of Colin McGinty, what happened to him and how the campaign was created in his memory. The assembly concludes on an uplifting and empowering note, highlighting the positive work happening across the country to prevent knife crime and promote safer communities.

Wednesday 22nd April 2026 – Southport Learning Trust Relay Event
More than 180 pupils from across our Trust schools will join together to complete a 30 mile Relay, travelling from Bootle to Maghull, then on to Formby and finally Southport.

Wednesday 22nd April 2026 – Mini Marathon Event
All pupils in school will take part in a 2.6 mile run around the school grounds, where we will recreate an exciting marathon style atmosphere! Along the course, pupils will pass eight printed famous London landmarks and will be encouraged by their cheering peers to help keep motivation high.

Saturday 25th April 2026 – TCS Mini London Marathon
Six pupils from our school, alongside others from across the Trust, will travel to London to take part in the 2.6 mile Mini Marathon. They will have the exciting opportunity to cross the iconic TCS London Marathon Finish Line and will each receive their own Mini Marathon medal.

Sunday 26th April 2026 – London Marathon
The pupils who travelled to London will then be able to watch and cheer on the runners taking part in the full 26.2 mile London Marathon. We will watch CEO of Southport Learning Trust Ian Raikes and teaching staff from Birkdale High, Maghull High and Meols Cop High set themselves a massive challenge of running the marathon.
