Story

Help Us Keep Our Community Safe with #kNOwKnifeCrime

Since July 2023, schools in the Southport Learning Trust have come together to support #kNOwKnifeCrime — a youth campaign focused on educating and empowering young people with vital, life-saving knowledge. At the heart of this work is a shared commitment to keeping our young people safe and giving them the confidence to make positive, informed choices.

Why Your Support Matters

In 2023, our schools raised an incredible £5,200 to fund bleed control kits and cabinets outside school grounds. Building on that success, April 2024 saw us join forces with schools across Sefton, raising £30,000 and enabling 86 bleed control kits and cabinets to be installed across the area.

In 2025, we carried this momentum forward by funding first aid training through the Mini Medics programme, equipping pupils with practical skills to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

In 2026, we are carrying on with our efforts and once again joining forces with the #kNOwKnifeCrime campaign. Our aim is clear: to educate as many young people as possible on the dangers of knife crime and to ensure they know exactly what to do if they are ever faced with a medical emergency. With your support, we can reach more pupils, strengthen awareness, and continue making a real, lasting difference.

Maghull High School | Upcoming Fundraising Events:

We have an exciting calendar of events coming up over the next few months, both here at Maghull High School and across the wider Trust...

• Students | Tuck Shop Friday (Next Half Term): Beginning next half term, students can support our fundraising campaign by joining us for Tuck Shop Friday, held in the Activity Studio – 27th February, 6th March, 13th March, 20th March and 27th March. Chocolate and sweets will be available to purchase from £1, with all proceeds going directly towards our #kNOwKnifeCrime fundraising efforts.

• Student Challenge | Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar (£1 Entry): As part of our ongoing fundraising efforts, we will also be running a ‘Guess How Many Sweets in the Jar’ competition. For £1 per entry, pupils can submit their guess for the total number of sweets inside the jar, with the closest correct guess winning the jar to take home. Full details, including when and where pupils can submit their guesses, will be shared with them in school. This competition will take place next half term, beginning Monday 23rd February onwards.

• Staff Challenge | Maghull Team Relay Marathon Challenge: Staff at Maghull High School will also be taking on the Maghull Team Relay Marathon Challenge. This friendly competition involves staff working in teams to collectively run 26.2 miles during a set challenge window. Teams share the distance between them and track their runs, with the fastest combined team time winning a prize.

• Thursday 16th April 2026 – Y8 and Y9 Assemblies: Our Year 8 and Year 9 pupils will take part in an impactful anti knife crime assembly led by Laura Hughes, Campaign Manager for #kNOwKnifeCrime. Laura has extensive experience working with children from primary age through to 18, delivering sessions that are informative, emotional and designed to leave a lasting impression. The assembly explores the story of Colin McGinty, explaining what happened to him and why the campaign was created in his memory. It concludes on a positive and empowering note, highlighting the meaningful work taking place across the country to prevent knife crime and support safer communities.

• Week commencing Monday 20th April 2026 – TCS Mini London Marathon in Schools: Thousands of pupils across the Southport Learning Trust will be taking part in Mini Marathon events within their own schools. These events aim to raise awareness of #kNOwKnifeCrime and are linked with the upcoming London Marathon. At Maghull High School, our pupils will complete their event during their KS3 PE lessons, running a two mile course on our school grounds. To support this initiative, we are kindly asking students to donate £2, which will go directly towards fundraising for the Mini Medics programme. Donations will be collected by their PE teacher at the start of the lesson.

• Wednesday 22nd April 2026 – Southport Learning Trust Relay Event: Over 180 pupils will take on a 30 mile Relay Run across our Trust, travelling from Bootle to Maghull to Formby to Southport – symbolically connecting our communities.

• Saturday 25th April 2026 – TCS Mini London Marathon: A group of 60 pupils (6 from Maghull High School) will travel to London to participate in the School Mile Race, finishing at the iconic TCS London Marathon finish line and earning their Mini Marathon medals.

• Sunday 26th April 2026 – London Marathon: One of our very own staff members, Miss Low, will be joining four colleagues from across the Trust as they proudly represent the Southport Learning Trust in the 2026 London Marathon, running in support of #kNOwKnifeCrime. Please join us in cheering them on as they prepare for this incredible challenge!

Support From Local Businesses:
We would also be grateful for the support of local businesses who may wish to contribute towards our fundraising efforts. Whether through matched funding, sponsorship, prize donations, or one off contributions, any level of support helps us extend our reach and provide vital training and resources to more young people. As a small thank you, any businesses who donate will be acknowledged and celebrated through our school social media pages. If you own or work for a business that may be interested in supporting #kNOwKnifeCrime, we would love to hear from you.

How You Can Help:
Every donation, no matter the size, helps us continue this life changing work and expand the opportunities we can offer our young people. You can support our campaign by: sponsoring pupils taking part in the Mini London Marathon; getting involved in the fundraising activities taking place within our school; supporting our staff members who are running the London Marathon and/or helping us spread the word within the wider community!

£261.50

This week, our Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 students took part in their own mini‑marathon events, completing a 2.6km run around the school grounds. The runs were held in support of our #kNOwKnifeCrime fundraising campaign, helping to raise money for Mini Medic programmes. Medals were awarded to the students who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd, and those finishing in the top 10 will receive a certificate.

The PE Department were incredibly impressed by the determination and enthusiasm shown by all participants, especially while supporting such an important cause. Together, our Year 7–9 cohorts raised an outstanding £261.50 for our Mini Medic fundraising page.

Upcoming Events... #kNOwKnifeCrime KS3 Mini-Marathon Events

As previously mentioned, thousands of pupils across the Trust will be taking part in mini‑marathon events linked with the upcoming London Marathon, raising awareness and support for #kNOwKnifeCrime. At Maghull High School, this will take place during KS3 PE lessons. Students should arrive at school in their full Maghull High School uniform as normal. They will get changed into their PE kit at the start of their PE lesson.

We are kindly asking students to donate £2, which will go directly towards funding the Mini‑Medics programme. This donation will be collected by their PE teacher at the start of the lesson. The training funded through this initiative will help our pupils feel confident and capable in emergency situations.

16 Apr 2026 / 10:15pm

We’re proud to be continuing our work in partnership with the #kNOwKnifeCrime campaign to raise awareness and support vital education for young people. Following today’s powerful assembly, our fundraising efforts are now underway as we prepare for a series of upcoming events – including KS3 mini‑marathons, a trust relay, our London Mini‑Marathon runners proudly representing our school, and Miss Low taking part in the London Marathon.

These events aim to help fund life‑saving bleed control kits and essential Mini Medics training, while continuing important conversations around safety, choices, and community. This year, we aim to go further by expanding Mini Medics training to even more schools, equipping pupils with essential first aid skills and the confidence to act in emergency situations.

📢 More details to follow very soon as we head into next week’s activities – please keep an eye out and help us support this important cause.

All contributions, no matter the size, are greatly appreciated and help us continue delivering vital, life‑saving education to young people.
